What is Safe360°?
At the Â鶹ÊÓƵ of Strathclyde, we are committed to creating and promoting a safe and respectful environment that enables students, staff, and all members of our community to learn, work, and live free from harm, abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
Safe360° is the Â鶹ÊÓƵ of Strathclyde’s safeguarding framework outlining our shared commitment to the care and protection of all who use our services. It brings together national guidance with our university policies and procedures and promotes support for our diverse community of students, staff and anyone involved in university activity.
The Â鶹ÊÓƵ has legal responsibilities as a Higher Education Institution and a charity to ensure that appropriate safeguarding measures are in place to protect:
- Children and young people under 18 years of age
- Adults at Risk
Our vision for Safe360° is that we believe universities have an important role to play in building safer communities, both through the impact of our teaching, research and knowledge exchange, and by ensuring our campuses are safe. Together we play our part in driving the change needed in society more generally.
Safe360° is a Registered Trademark of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ of Strathclyde in the United Kingdom.
Why do we need Safeguarding?
The potential for harm can arise in many contexts, including online environments. Safeguarding describes a range of approaches to reduce the potential for harm, such as abuse, neglect or exploitation, to occur and to respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, such as those described in this video.
You can read more in our Safe 360 Safeguarding Policy and Child Safeguarding Policy and Child Protection Procedure.
We work together to create a supportive culture that enables anyone to report a concern or an incident, whether it's happened to them, personally, or to someone else, including anonymous reporting.

Governance
The Â鶹ÊÓƵ recognises its statutory responsibilities as a Higher Education Institution and as a charity to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect the Â鶹ÊÓƵ community.
Our Safeguarding Committee reports to the Executive Team (ET) and, through ET, to Â鶹ÊÓƵ Court. A member of Â鶹ÊÓƵ Court takes on the role of Safeguarding Lead for Court. Additional committee oversight comes from Staff and Student Committees noted in the published Safe360° Safeguarding Policy.
As a socially progressive university, we are determined to ensure that every member of our extended Â鶹ÊÓƵ community is safe and respected. This means we each need to take responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of others. Strathclyders are known for making a positive impact on the world around them, and I am very proud of our supportive and people-orientated community of staff, students and alumni.
- Professor Sir Jim McDonald, Principal and Vice-Chancellor
